# Versatile Skid-Mounted Heating and Cooling Systems Work for Several Applications

One of the great things about transfer skids is that they are versatile enough to be used for different temperature applications. For hot and cold extremes there are Heat Transfer Skids and Cooling Skids both of which have varied uses.
**Skid-Mounted Heat Transfer Systems** can use numerous elements to transfer heat including hot water, steam, a glycol-mix, or hot oils. Most often these systems are used in climates where snow and ice are an issue. For example, if a hospital has a helipad on the roof for bringing in critically ill or injured patients, obviously this needs to be free of ice and snow during the winter so helicopters can land safely and staff can rush the patient into the hospital quickly and without incident.
A proper heat transfer system will meet your company’s needs and correct previous issues. Helipad snowmelt skids are beneficial not just for hospitals but also for airports, traffic helicopters and more. Skid-mounted helipads melt snow and ice is by creating warmth with a low-pressure steam heat exchanger that keeps snow and ice melted.
Heat transfer systems can be designed to solve many company challenges. And since the skid-mounted package arrives preassembled it’s ready to go as soon as it’s delivered and quickly installed. These systems can be customized to fit most spaces whether inside or out, regardless of weather conditions.
A temperature controller on the control panel and an RTD (resistance temperature detector) sense and control the temperature. If your company prefers using an HOA switch, manual operation is possible. If the system ever fails, an alarm bell sounds to alert the operator. The system protects itself by de-energizing the motor starter so it won’t burn out and cause damage to the system.
**Cooling Pump Systems** are popular for electric power generation, cooling manufacturing process equipment, and cooling industrial electrical panels. Just like heat transfer skids, skid-mounted cooling systems are preassembled and tested before they ship. Once they arrive they can be set up quickly saving your company a great deal of downtime and money.
Some additional uses for Cooling Skids include:
- Cooling towers allow a small amount of water to be cooled enough to evaporate into a moving air stream, which increases cooling to the rest of the water stream. Preferable to other heat rejection devices, cooling towers are more cost-effective and energy efficient because they create lower water temperatures.
- Airflow radiators help keep equipment at the correct temperature at all times regardless of surrounding conditions. The airflow speed through the radiator is what creates the biggest amount of heat loss.
- Chillers remove heat from a liquid with either vapor compression or absorption refrigeration. At that point the liquid can be circulated through a heat exchanger to cool air or equipment.
