Now it seems even the President is on the hydraulic fracturing bandwagon. While everyone may not agree with the process of hydraulic fracturing as "clean" we can certainly all agree that the United States must become less dependent on foreign countries for its oil.
In his State of the Union address last month, President Obama stated that he supports natural gas drilling on federal lands. The reserves of natural gas in this country that can now be accessed by a fairly new technique called hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, will make us less dependent on foreign oil plus it will create jobs and lower the price of oil.
In addition to creating jobs, extracting this natural gas will provide cleaner and less expensive fuels so we “don’t have to choose between our environment and our economy.”
Those who oppose hydraulic fracturing say it contaminates our air and water while proponents say it can be done without harming the environment. Any process will have its pros and cons and in the case of fracking, when done correctly, the pros definitely outweigh any cons.
